LightLab International is a multinational company that originated in Australia in 1986. Since that time, the lab has been focused on supplying technical resources to the lighting industry with a worldwide customer base. Many modern light sources (including LED and CFL sources) can be difficult to measure accurately because of their sensitivity to temperature and operating position. The photometric testing laboratories at LightLab International have been specifically designed to produce highly accurate results even with the most temperature and position sensitive lamps and luminaries.
LightLab International uses the most state-of-the-art equipment available including LightLab International’s R80A Type-C rotating mirror goniometer (test distance > 8m (26.2ft)) with photometer and spectroradiometer measurement capabilities. The labs also include integrating spheres for total luminous flux and color measurements, as well as highly accurate electrical measurement instruments and dedicated thermal test chambers to guarantee the accuracy of our analysis.
Who We Are
LightLab International was established in Richmond, Victoria Australia in 1986, and was at that time named Lighting Sciences Australasia (LSA). In 1993, the company moved to a new location in Springvale, Victoria Australia. The lab was eventually bought out by Mr Eric Southgate and became LightLab International. LightLab International later moved to a purpose built facility in Clontarf Queensland, Australia in 2006, and has subsequently served as the headquarters for the company.
LightLab International began supplying goniophotometers to the US market in 2007, and recognized the need for quality photometric measurements surrounding the expanding LED market. In 2010, Lightlab International opened its own lab in Phoenix, Arizona to serve the Western USA market. In order to meet the needs of the industry, the lab in Phoenix was specifically designed to accurately measure LED lamps and luminaires in accordance with IES LM-79 test methods. The lab utilizes special techniques to help reduce test costs and maximize testing efficiency.
With the continued evolution of the LED market, a 3rd laboratory was opened in the summer of 2015, located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and was founded by two veterans of the lighting testing industry, Michael Grather and Tracy Silvert. LightLab International Allentown, LLC is focused on supplying a comprehensive set of testing services from a convenient location serving eastern USA.
